Orthopaedic sports medicine specialist Chase Smith, MD, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics in the UAMS College of Medicine. He began Aug. 31.

Baptist Health Downtown Care medical clinic is hosting a drop-in open house on Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. Open to the public, everyone from local residents to those who work in the surrounding area are invited to attend. Tours will be available after the official ribbon cutting at 4 p.m.

Dan W. Rahn, MD, chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) since 2009, has announced that he plans to retire effective July 31, 2017. University of Arkansas System President Donald R. Bobbitt, PhD, will form a search committee to find Rahn’s successor.

Two new cardio physicians recently joined the team at CHI St. Vincent and Heart Clinic Arkansas. In July, Thurston Bauer, MD, joined the CHI St. Vincent Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic, located at 5 St. Vincent Circle, Suite 503. In August, cardiologist Muhammad Waqas, MD, joined the CHI St. Vincent Heart Clinic Arkansas, located at 10100 Kanis Road.
