The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) announced Monday that Interim Division of Youth Services (DYS) Director Betty Guhman will take on the role permanently. Guhman has served as interim director of DYS since late July.

People with sickle cell disease, their families, healthcare professionals and the public are invited to the free, fifth annual Sickle Cell Symposium on Oct. 6-7 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.
The Sickle Cell Symposium is presented by Future Builders Inc. in collaboration with the UAMS Sickle Cell Clinical Program. Free continuing education credit is available.

Dan W. Rahn, MD, chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) since 2009, has announced that he plans to retire effective July 31, 2017. University of Arkansas System President Donald R. Bobbitt, PhD, will form a search committee to find Rahn’s successor.

Two UAMS Medical Students Receive Scholarships

The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation presented a $150,000 check to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) 12th Street Health and Wellness Center to support dental care and encourage dental education and residency at UAMS.
The 12th Street Center’s dental service has seen more than 400 patients since opening last year. Patients are often seen first at the center, with some being referred for the next level of care at the UAMS Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation Oral Health Clinic.
