Frederick “Rick” E. Barr, MD, will join the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and associate dean for child health in the UAMS College of Medicine, as well as pediatrician-in-chief for Arkansas Children’s, effective Oct. 1.

In an effort to address substance abuse and addiction statewide, the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) is shifting resources, including behavioral health services staff, and about $24 million in drug abuse prevention and treatment grants, under the direction of the State Drug Director. The announcement was made by Cindy Gillespie, agency director.
Governor Asa Hutchinson named Benton Police Chief Kirk Lane as State Drug Director. He has been Benton police chief since 2009, and was with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. He will assume his duties Aug. 7.
