Lawrence O’Malley, MD, a sports medicine specialist, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

O’Malley will be an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He will see patients at the UAMS Orthopaedic Clinic at Autumn Road.

Neurosurgeon Analiz Rodriguez, MD, PhD, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She sees patients in the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and serves as an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery.

Her medical specialties include primary and secondary brain tumors, endoscopy, radiosurgery, laser thermal ablation, and spinal tumors.

Arkansas Urology has acquired Conway Urology, an independent group practice located at 495 Hogan Lane.  Two physicians and two nurse practitioners will join Arkansas Urology with this merger.

The single biggest factor determining whether a patient is likely to use opioids long-term may be the number of days’ supply initially prescribed, according to a study by UAMS researchers.

“Compared to someone prescribed two days versus seven days, that person with a seven-day supply is twice as likely to be using opioids in the long term,” said Bradley Martin, PharmD, PhD. “The days supplied is far more important than the dosage level, or even the type of pain being treated.”

CARTI radiation oncologist Christopher Pope, MD, is one of only 134 physicians in the United States selected this year by the American College of Radiology to receive one of the organization’s highest honors.

Pope was inducted as an ACR Fellow during the national organization’s annual conference this summer in Washington, D.C.
