CHI St. Vincent, an Arkansas-based nonprofit health system with four hospitals and a network of clinics serving Central and Southwest Arkansas, has released its three year Community Health Needs Assessment. The report identifies significant healthcare needs in the Arkansas communities the faith-based health system serves as well as specific plans to help address those needs over the coming three years.
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC) will provide free blood pressure checks during the month of February in recognition of American Heart Month.
“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for all Americans and research shows that minorities are disproportionately affected by it. High blood pressure is a contributing factor to heart disease and is often called the ‘silent killer,’ so the AMHC is honored to provide the checks for the community as both a prevention and education tool,” said AMHC Director Kenya L. Eddings.
The UAMS Institute for Digital Health and Innovation’s Brain Injury Program will host a virtual workshop, “Strategies for Memory and Mood,” Feb. 16 to connect anyone affected by a traumatic brain injury (TBI) to helpful resources and support.

Hospitalized patients receive a large amount of medical information from their healthcare team. Patient understanding of medical care reduces readmission rates and improves patient satisfaction, yet the literature suggests that patients often have poor retention of the large amount of care information they received despite numerous interventions.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has named Michelle W. Krause, MD, MPH, senior vice chancellor for UAMS Health and chief executive officer for UAMS Medical Center, and Ahmed Abuabdou, MD, MBA, chief clinical officer for UAMS Medical Center. Both have been serving in these roles on an interim basis since September 2022.
