Peter Kohler, MD, is retiring as vice chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ northwest Arkansas campus, effective Dec. 31. He will continue to work part time, seeing patients and conducting research in the Center for Pacific Islander Health.

Baptist Health recently dedicated its newest hospital in a ceremony in Conway with the help of Gov.Asa Hutchinson. The governor, along with Baptist Health President and CEO Troy Wells, Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway Vice President and Administrator Joanie White-Wagoner, and community leaders spoke during the event. Pastor Don Chandler of Central Baptist Church offered a dedication prayer.

The public is invited to help fight breast cancer by voting online for a video featuring the dancing talents of doctors, nurses and others at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and members of the Little Rock Trojans.

The video to “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon was produced by UAMS and entered in the Medline Pink Glove Dance contest to raise breast cancer awareness.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will give child car seat safety checks from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 17 at Freeway Medical Clinic – University Women’s Clinic, 4800 W. 10th St.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will check that car seats are the appropriate size and have been correctly installed into vehicles. Arkansas law requires all children age 6 and under or who weigh less than 60 pounds be in a car seat.

If you’re ready to quit smoking, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is ready to help. The small-group Freedom from Smoking program will meet from 4-5:30 p.m. for seven Wednesdays beginning Sept. 28 in room 10104 on the 10th floor of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. There is no cost to participate.
