The Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) invites the public to attend a celebration of National Family Caregiver Month starting at 8 a.m. Nov. 9 at the institute.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising hospitals to notify patients who underwent open-heart (open-chest) surgery involving a Stöckert 3T heater-cooler that the device was potentially contaminated, possibly putting patients at risk for a life threatening infection.
New information indicates that these devices, manufactured by LivaNova PLC (formerly Sorin Group Deutschland GmbH), were likely contaminated with the rare bacteria Mycobacterium chimaera during manufacturing.
Lensey Scott, MD, a Conway interventional cardiologist, has joined the Conway Regional Cardiovascular Clinic.
Dr. Scott has been a member of the active medical staff at Conway Regional Health System since September of 2015. Effective Oct. 1, Dr. Scott became a partner with Conway Regional and the Jack Stephens Heart Institute at CHI St. Vincent and is currently in practice with Don Steely, MD.
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Chancellor Dan Rahn, MD, and Robert Hopkins Jr., MD, in the UAMS College of Medicine have been awarded Mastership in the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internists.
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing has received $100,000 to provide primary care services, with an emphasis on mental health, to older Arkansans.
Half of the money comes from the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education at the University of Minnesota, where the UAMS College of Nursing was one of 16 institutions chosen to receive a grant. The other half of the money is matching funds from the UAMS Office of the Provost.
