Ticket sales are underway for the 13th annual CARTI Ragin’ Cajun Bash, an authentic bayou-themed fundraiser presented by Iberia Bank and benefiting CARTI, scheduled for 6-9 p.m. on April 20 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

“Expectations and excitement are high this year for what we are calling our ‘Million Dollar Crawfish Boil,’” says Sabrina Frazier, associate major gifts officer for the CARTI Foundation.

Since its debut in 2005, the CARTI Ragin’ Cajun Bash has collectively raised more than $960,000 on behalf of CARTI and the cancer patients of Arkansas.

Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) Director Cindy Gillespie announced Tuesday that Janet Mann, who has more than two decades of finance, budget and Medicaid experience, will serve as the agency’s new chief financial officer. Mann had been serving as a finance contractor since late November after the sudden death of CFO Mark Story.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) opened a walk-in, after-hours orthopaedics clinic — OrthoNow — on April 3 at the UAMS Orthopaedics Clinic at 600 Autumn Road.

OrthoNow will be open 5-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. - noon Saturdays for general orthopaedics issues. Patients will not need to call in advance to schedule an appointment.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) experts spoke about the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s Plus syndrome at their third annual Parkinson’s Symposium on April 2.

Subjects included alternative therapies, social needs and caregiving, fitness, Tai Chi and deep brain stimulation.

Erika Petersen, MD, and other UAMS speakers were featured during the event which was held in the Jo Ellen Ford Auditorium at the UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.

A $1.7 million grant from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will allow a University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) researcher to study a potential new therapy to reduce the risk of blood cancer caused by ionizing radiation.
