A University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) research team in Northwest Arkansas will study a potential way to improve health outcomes of pregnant Marshallese women using group-based care and healthcare navigators.

Led by UAMS researcher Britni Ayers, PhD, the study of maternal health care involving small groups of women, known as CenteringPregnancy, is funded by a two-year, $420,750 grant from the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has been awarded more than $2 million in federal grant money to equip and support primary care providers across the state to screen, diagnose, treat, and refer children with behavioral health conditions.

With the grant money, the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, under an agreement with Arkansas Children’s, is developing a program called Children of Arkansas Mental Health in Primary Care (CHAMP).

The Arkansas Minority Health Commission invites the citizens of Phillips County to attend a community health forum in Helena-West Helena, Ark., on Nov. 10. The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Delta Cultural Center on 141 Cherry Street.

Judy Ali, MD, will serve as the evening’s presenting healthcare professional, providing details of the county’s health outcome rankings and health factors. Included in these statistics are issues that range from adult smoking and chronic diseases, to limited access to healthy foods.

Baptist Health Community Outreach is sponsoring Maintain, Don’t Gain Challenge beginning Nov. 21 and concluding Jan. 8, 2023. Registration is open until Nov. 18.

The free seven-week challenge encourages individuals to maintain or lose weight during the holiday season when it is challenging to eat healthy and be physically active.

Participants will email their weight each Monday during the challenge. Each Monday, one person who submits their weight will be randomly selected for a door prize, and everyone who completes the program will receive a healthy living goodie bag.
