The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) 12th St. Health & Wellness Center invites the public to participate in free health care services at its “March Man-ness Men’s Health Event” March 18 at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock.

While this event focuses on men’s health, women also are invited to receive free blood pressure checks, glucose and cholesterol screenings, and physical examinations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free HIV testing will be available using a mouth swab and without needles.

The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) is providing Quality Payment Program hands-on training and technical assistance to eligible Arkansas and Mississippi health care clinicians and physician practices as a result of funding awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Nationally, CMS awarded approximately $20 million to 11 organizations for the first year of a five-year program to provide direct, individualized training about the Quality Payment Program for clinicians in individual or small group practices of 15 clinicians or fewer.

Smokers seeking to kick the habit can discover tips, tools and techniques specifically targeted to help successfully decrease or discontinue tobacco use as part of an upcoming series of free smoking cessation classes being offered at the CARTI Cancer Center in Little Rock.

“Ask any former smoker, and they will tell you when it comes to quitting the first step is always the hardest,” says Carolyn Garrett, coordinator of the Patient Resource Center at CARTI.

Steve Schexnayder, MD, has been appointed to the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Pediatric Task Force, which reviews the latest science to develop pediatric resuscitation guidelines used throughout the world.
