Two experienced family doctors with the St. Vincent Medical Clinic have joined the Conway Regional Primary Care Network.

David Martin, MD, joined Conway Medical Group and Kristy Roberts, DO, began practice at Greenbrier Family Medicine. Both clinics are members of the Conway Regional Primary Care Network.

The push for a therapy to treat peanut allergy continues as an international clinical trial conducted in part at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute (ACRI) is highlighted in a manuscript in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The study features the work of allergy specialists at ACRI and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The Addiction Research Training Program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) was recently awarded $2.1 million from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to renew the program another five years.

The award marks the second time the program has been renewed by NIDA, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), since it began at UAMS in 2009. The program has received a total of $6 million in NIH funding. The award provides stipends as well as tuition and training-related and travel expenses for eight to 12 trainees in the area of addiction research.

Patients with diabetes visiting University of Arkansas of Medical Science (UAMS) family medicine clinics throughout the state will soon receive a new screening during regular doctor’s visits in an effort to save their vision.

The screening is called teleretinal imaging and uses a special camera to take pictures of the retina at the back of each eye. Images from the camera will be electronically sent to and reviewed by eye doctors at the UAMS Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute trained to spot retina damage, a frequent complication of diabetes.

Twenty-nine nurses from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) were named to the Great 100 Nurses Foundation’s annual list of the state’s superb nurses. 

The list honors nurses from numerous backgrounds and specialties for their concern for humanity, their contributions to the profession and their mentorship of others. UAMS nurses on the list come from research, administration, and clinical practice.
