The Arkansas Health Care Association (AHCA) announced that Jonas Schaffer from Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston, Ark., has been chosen by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as a future leader in long-term and post-acute care.

More Arkansas children with special healthcare needs are receiving world-class care than ever before, according to U. S. News & World Report rankings that put four Arkansas Children’s Hospital specialties among the nation’s top programs.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Arkansas Children’s Hospital in four specialties – the most ever – in its new 2017-18 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.

The Arkansas Children’s specialties highlighted include:

· Pediatric Cardiology, ranked No. 37

· Neonatology, ranked No. 38

Yoga has been shown to improve health through both physical exercise and mindfulness.

On July 10, the Arkansas Yoga Collective will discuss Tibetan nun Pema Chodron’s book, When Things Fall Apart, in its “Tomes and Tea” Book Club Meeting. The event will take place from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Tea and snacks will be provided. Feel free to bring finger foods, if you wish to share. This is a free, open event, and all are welcome.

The collective’s main objective is to provide a supportive platform for open discussion to inspire self-observation and personal growth.

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will start accepting applications for medical marijuana registry identification cards on June 30.

These cards will allow patients or caregivers to purchase medical marijuana at a licensed dispensary. Currently, there are no licensed medical marijuana dispensaries in Arkansas. Cards will be issued to qualifying patients and caregivers approximately 30 days before medical marijuana is available for legal purchase in the state, which is likely to be early next year.

Elana Russell of Conway, an advanced practice registered nurse, has joined the medical staff of the Conway Regional Neuroscience Center.

On June 6, she joined neurologists Tim Freyaldenhoven and Keith Schluterman, who formed a partnership with Conway Regional to establish the Conway Regional Neuroscience Center earlier this year.
