The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will hold a measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine clinic at the Don Owen Sports Complex at 10 Lower Ridge Rd. in Conway on May 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. The vaccine will be provided at no cost, but people should bring their insurance card if they have one.

There are currently six cases of measles that have been identified this year. Community spread has been identified in Faulkner County. Measles exposure locations and case counts are updated at www.healthy.arkansas.gov.

The National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program recently recognized Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) as a Gold Level Safe Sleep Hospital for its commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep.

The National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program was created by Cribs for Kids®, a national infant safe sleep organization. ACH is recognized for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), providing training programs for healthcare team members and providing safe sleep education to family and caregivers.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Milk Bank hosted a milk donor day on May 10.

During the event, Milk Bank staff accepted milk donations, provided donor screenings, and gave tours of the facility. Staff from the Arkansas Department of Health were on hand to offer maternal health screenings and administer limited vaccinations. Representatives from the UAMS Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and the Arkansas Minority Health Commission were also at the event providing information about maternal and pediatric resources.

WASHINGTON — The Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday that potential major cuts and changes to Medicaid under consideration by Republicans could mean states would have to spend more of their own money on the program, reduce payments to health care providers, limit optional benefits and reduce enrollment.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine invested Nicola “Nikki” Edge, PhD, professor and vice chair of research in the UAMS Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, in the Cathy Cole Seilhan and Denton Seilhan Endowed Chair for Child and Family Resilience during an April 17 ceremony. Edge is the inaugural holder of the endowed chair.

Edge also serves as director of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine’s Research and Evaluation Division. She joined UAMS in 1996 as a research assistant in the Department of Psychiatry.
