Family Medicine Conference to Be Held May 10-12 with Practical Topics for Practitioners

Family physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and physical therapists will learn updates on marijuana and medicine, fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, and common orthopedic issues at the 40th Annual Family Medicine Intensive Review Course slated for May 10 – 12 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

With more than 23 hours of content, including a full day of orthopaedic topics, the conference will feature updates on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 by Amy Mullins, MD, medical director for the American Academy of Family Physicians. 

Cost for the event is $475, but medical professionals can register for the early-bird rate of $425 until April 27 by going to cme.uams.edu. Call (501) 686-6626 if interested in attending only one day. Groups that register three or more at a time will receive a 25 percent discount off the standard rate.

Physicians and APRNs also can attend a separate hands-on session to practice joint injection of the knee and shoulder taught by orthopaedic specialists John Bracey, MD, and Michael Cassat, MD. The cost is $110.

Other topics will be migraines, cold turkey smoking cessation, opioid use in Arkansas, breast cancer screening, and genetic testing for gynecological cancer. It will feature an Arkansas clinic’s success story in team-based care, project management, electronic medical records, and billing.
