Educators from across Arkansas are invited to attend Teaching with Technology, a symposium to give educators new tools and ideas for teaching in the classroom and online. The symposium will be held July 20-21 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
The registration fee for the symposium is $95; $75 for one-day registration. For students, the cost is $35 per day, or $45 for both days. Registration covers breakfast and lunch as well as a reception on Thursday. The deadline for online registration is July 14, but onsite registration is also available. The Teaching with Technology Symposium is organized by UAMS Teaching with Technology Committee for educators and trainers at all levels, and in all disciplines. University of Arkansas System, UA Pulaski Tech, and UALR participated in the development of the 2017 program.
The 11th annual forum will be in the I. Dodd Wilson Education Building from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on July 20, and 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. on July 21. The symposium will focus on the science of successful learning, and helping educators improve their teaching effectiveness in the classroom and online.
“The symposium continues to be successful in helping educators throughout the state stay up to date and even get ahead in using technology to enhance student engagement,” said Jan Hart, a member of the UAMS Teaching with Technology Committee. “It is great to network with other educators and share new ideas.”
This year’s symposium features Pooja Agarwal, PhD, speaking about “Make it Stick: Harness the Science of Learning & Transform Teaching.” Agarwal, an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, was a researcher for the book Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning.
Michael Moore, PhD, vice president for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas System, will be the opening featured speaker on Thursday with “New Models for Supporting Students in a Rapidly Changing Higher Education Environment.”
Jerad Gardner, MD, an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine, will be the featured speaker for Thursday’s lunch speaking on “Teaching Bigger, Better, and Faster with Social Media.”
Each year, faculty, staff, students, instructional designers, librarians, administrators, curriculum developers, educational technology support team members, and other educators learn new skills and expand their professional network at the event.
