Child Car Seat Safety Checks Offered

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will give child car seat safety checks from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 17 at Freeway Medical Clinic – University Women’s Clinic, 4800 W. 10th St.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will check that car seats are the appropriate size and have been correctly installed into vehicles. Arkansas law requires all children age 6 and under or who weigh less than 60 pounds be in a car seat.

“At least 90 percent of children in car seats are not properly restrained,” said Heather Smith, Child Passenger Safety Program Coordinator, UAMS. “It’s not always easy for parents and caregivers to adjust the seat to the proper fit. Our technicians can help adjust the seat to make sure the child is safe and answer any questions.”

For more information, call Smith at 501-231-0304.
