UAMS Hosts Parkinsonism Walk Nov. 7 at Little Rock Zoo

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is hosting its second Parkinsonism Walk on Nov. 7 at the Little Rock Zoo.

The event, which is open to the public, is designed to create awareness about Parkinsonism, a group of neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s Disease, that cause movement problems, and to raise funds for the continued support of Parkinsonism education and community initiatives.

It also offers an opportunity to talk with UAMS providers, community partners, and fellow participants.

Registration and check-in begin at 9 a.m. at the zoo’s pavilion. A welcome message and brief remarks from organizers are scheduled for 10 a.m. inside the pavilion, where participants can also explore activity tables, educational resources, and displays from community partners.

Walkers are welcome to participate in sitting or standing pre-walk stretching sessions before the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. The walk will follow a designated .3-mile route on a paved path through the zoo, starting and ending at the pavilion, with benches and a water station available along the way. Participants are encouraged to enjoy the walk at their own pace.

A live performance by John Lee, a Little Rock musician, will begin at 11:15 a.m. in the pavilion, and the event concludes at noon.

Tickets are $25, with proceeds directly benefitting UAMS programs across Arkansas for people living with Parkinsonism.

The event is put on by the UAMS College of Medicine Department of Neurology.
