From school-based to recreational sports, each year there are seven million sports-related injuries. The top five sports that cause the most injuries are basketball, cycling, football, exercise, and soccer according to the National Safety Council via the Insurance Information Institute.
Because so many of these injuries occur on the weekends and during the fall, Baptist Health opened a sports medicine clinic staffed with orthopedists to see patients every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. through Nov. 19. Some of the most common sports-related trauma treated by the Baptist Health Sports Medicine Clinic include hip flexor and groin strains, ACL tears, shin splints, shoulder injuries, sprained ankles, Achilles tendinitis, runner’s knee, tennis or golf elbow, pulled muscles, and lower back pain.
What makes this Baptist Health Sports Medicine Clinic so unique is that no appointment is needed and no physician’s referral is required to be seen by an orthopedic specialist. Baptist Health Sports Medicine Clinic is located at OrthoArkansas at 10301 Kanis Road in Little Rock.
