The Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub announced that Joel Gordon has been named as its new executive director.
Joel has served as the director of making at the Hub since its launch in 2013, and co-founded Arkansas's first makerspace there. He is also the founder of the North Little Rock Mini Maker Faire.
Joel takes the reins from Warwick Sabin, the Hub's founding executive director, who is now senior director for U.S. Programs at Winrock International.
"I am honored to have this opportunity -- the Hub has become a second home for me," said Joel. "I thank Warwick, Winrock, and Argenta for their faith in our mission. The Hub's resources, staff, and members have become the center for innovative energy in the State of Arkansas. I will give every effort to support and grow this community of creative minds."
Joel has been a fabricator, artist, and designer for theater, film, and television and has created exhibits for world-class art and science museums around the globe. He has also worked in industrial design and product development. Prior to joining the Innovation Hub, Joel was the director of visitor experience at the Museum of Discovery. He is a familiar face to many because of his role as science correspondent on KATV's Good Morning Arkansas.
A leader in the maker movement, Joel was invited to the White House in 2015 as a panel member in the discussion of the movement's impact on workforce and economic development. In 2016, he returned to the White House, twice, to serve as a panelist for the Convening of Makerspace Organizers. Joel was also integral to the formation of the Nation of Makers, and serves as the Make Ambassador for the State of Arkansas.
"I am absolutely thrilled that Joel Gordon will assume the responsibility of directing the Innovation Hub," said Warwick. "Joel was instrumental in the creation of the Innovation Hub, and it is very much a reflection of his unique vision and talents. He understands its mission and purpose, and I cannot think of anyone better suited to lead the organization as it continues to evolve and grow."
