The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) received a $1 million gift from Brenda Gullett and Robert R. Gullett Jr., MD, associate professor and orthopaedic surgeon at the UAMS Northwest Regional Campus, to benefit the UAMS Health Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Hospital in Springdale.
Because of the Gulletts’ generosity, the UAMS Health Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Hospital’s sports medicine clinic will be named the Dr. Bob Gullett Clinic for Sports Medicine.
Gullett graduated from the Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1969. He completed an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery from LSU Health Shreveport in 1970 and 1974, respectively. After medical training, he served for two years in the U.S. Army at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
For over 30 years, he worked in private practice in orthopaedic surgery in Pine Bluff. From 1978-2006, he also served as an adjunct faculty member for what is now the UAMS South Central Regional Campus in Pine Bluff.
Years later, Gullett was instrumental in establishing Arkansas’ first sports medicine fellowship, offering advanced training on diagnosis and treatment of sports-related illness and injury for University of Arkansas student-athletes. Currently practicing in Fayetteville, Gullett sees patients at the Internal Medicine Clinic at Butterfield Village and the UAMS Health Family Medical Center.
UAMS is the exclusive orthopaedic and sports medicine provider for Razorback Athletics, and the facility will provide specialized care for the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s student-athletes.
