A University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) program that provides support for treatment of childhood trauma is hosting a free showing Feb. 21 of a documentary dealing with the negative, cumulative effects of early abuse and the science-based interventions that promote healing.
The film, “Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope,” is open to the public and will be shown at 6 p.m. at the Central Arkansas Library System’s Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave.
The event, which will include a group discussion featuring a panel of childhood experts, is being hosted by UAMS’ ARBEST (Arkansas Building Effective Services for Trauma) program in conjunction with the Ron Robinson Theater and the Arkansas Children's Trust Fund.
ARBEST provides funding, training and consultation to mental health professionals throughout the state to assess and treat children and adolescents who have suffered from physical, sexual and emotional abuse. ARBEST is part of the UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute and educates professionals, foster and adoptive parents, and the general public on the effects of childhood trauma and state-of-the-art interventions to improve children’s mental, social and emotional health.
