Arkansas Children’s has hired Brent Thompson, JD, to lead its legal services division as senior vice president and chief legal officer. He joins the state’s only healthcare system dedicated to children on Jan. 7.
Thompson currently serves as chief legal officer for Cape Fear Valley Health System in Fayetteville, NC, a system with more than 900 licensed beds and 6,000 employees. His experience there – coupled with his previous experience as assistant general counsel for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma – give him an excellent skillset for helping Arkansas Children’s further strengthen its legal services division.
“Brent was drawn to our mission of championing children because one of his two sons spent several days in an NICU right after birth,” said Arkansas Children’s President & CEO Marcy Doderer, FACHE. “During his son’s stay, Brent experienced the same type of passion for making children better today and healthier tomorrow that is characteristic of our team. We’re excited to welcome this collaborative, mission-minded leader with an inclination for problem-solving.”
Thompson earned a law degree at the University of Tulsa College of Law and is also an alum of University of Oklahoma in Norman. He has extensive experience in litigation, hospital policies and procedures, and hospital compliance with federal laws.
