‘Cyber Warfare’ is Focus of June 27 Science Café

Science Café Little Rock, co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will hold its next public forum, Cyber Warfare, on June 27. Panelists will discuss the latest cyber threats, artificial intelligence, and ways to protect against computer hackers in the 21st century.

Science Café will be from 7-9 p.m. at a new location – Hibernia Irish Tavern, 9700 N. Rodney Parham Road. Science Café is a relaxed opportunity for monthly exchanges with various experts. No reservations are needed, but seating is limited. Admission is free.

This month’s panel will include Michael Gashler, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville; Kimberly Bertschy, computer information faculty at Northwest Arkansas Community College at Bentonville; and Capt. Scott Anderson, conversion officer and director of operations for the 189th Operations Group Detachment 1 in the Arkansas Air National Guard.

Dorothy Graves, PhD, associate director for administration at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, will moderate the event, and host the corresponding live call-in program, “Science Café Little Rock,” on National Public Radio-affiliate station KUAR FM89. The science talk show, featuring one speaker from the monthly panel of scientists and experts, is aired just prior (6:05-6:30 p.m.) to the live Science Café event. Anderson will be this month’s radio guest.
