Baptist Health Foundation recently welcomed Ryan Fitzgerald, MD, of Radiology Consultants as a new board member. Radiology Consultants provides imaging services for Baptist Health hospitals.

Fitzgerald, a Batesville native, has a personal and deeply impactful history with Baptist Health. He was diagnosed with coarctation of the aorta at a young age. The medical team at Arkansas Children’s Hospital communicated with the team at Baptist Health and decided that the best plan for him was to come to Baptist Health.

United States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy released a new Surgeon General’s Advisory on Social Media and Youth Mental Health - PDF. While social media may offer some benefits, there are ample indicators that social media can also pose a risk of harm to the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. Social media use by young people is nearly universal, with up to 95% of young people ages 13-17 reporting using a social media platform and more than a third saying they use social media “almost constantly.”

New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) at Arkansas State University (A-State) celebrated 115 new physicians at its commencement and hooding ceremony, which was held at the A-State Fowler Center.

The NYITCOM at A-State Class of 2023 arrived in Jonesboro in 2019 as the fourth class on the medical school’s Arkansas campus. Their second semester of medical school coincided with the onset of a global pandemic, which brought unprecedented challenges that also uniquely bonded the group.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Dental Hygiene is offering a free Summer of Smiles clinic June 16 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Freeway Medical Tower, 5800 W. 10th St., Suite 501.

The clinic is for children 3-17 years old. It will offer preventive services such as dental cleanings, examinations, X-ray imaging, and fluoride treatments.

Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call (501) 686-5733 and mention “Summer of Smiles.”

The Department of Dental Hygiene is part of the UAMS College of Health Professions.
