Arkansas Hospice, the state’s largest provider of hospice services, announces the addition of Robin Long Hayes as Chief Operating Officer (COO). The move was effective Aug. 21.

Scare up some fun this Halloween at the Tiny Hands Monster Bash. The costume party fundraiser is scheduled for 6:30-11 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Next Level Events, located at 1400 W. Markham St. in Little Rock’s Union Station.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Family Home and the UAMS neonatal intensive care unit.

The evening’s entertainment will include live music, dancing, a silent auction, and hors d’oeuvres. Beer, wine, and “monster juice” cocktails are included in the ticket price; a cash bar also will be available.

Researchers with the Myeloma Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) have identified one reason myeloma patients respond differently to treatment — the cancer cells can vary in type and intensity, depending on where they are located in the bone marrow.

The team, headed by Leo Rasche, MD, and Niels Weinhold, PhD, reported these findings in the Aug. 16 edition of the online publication Nature Communications in the article, “Spatial Genomic Heterogeneity in Multiple Myeloma Revealed by Multi-region Sequencing.”

The UAMS Translational Research Institute has received funding for a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) totaling $3,497,558, through Aug. 31, 2018.

The Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) announced it will launch its new Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS) on Nov. 1. The new system will streamline claims processing, and provide a more efficient reimbursement method for both providers and the state. Doctors and hospitals will now have the ability to submit claims and other documents electronically.
