The Arkansas Hospital Association (AHA) will host the 2018 CPT, HCPCS Level II and OPPS Updates for Hospitals on January 19, 2018 at AHA headquarters. This annual workshop will educate attendees on key issues including regulatory changes, compliance concerns and the latest code updates for 2018. Many of these changes significantly impact hospital compliance and reimbursement.

Arkansas Medicaid officials notified hospitals on Dec. 14 about the estimated upper payment limit (UPL) calculations which will apply to the state’s Hospital Assessment Program for state fiscal year (SFY) 2018, which began July 1, 2017. The calculations provide hospital specific amounts for the assessment fees that will be charged to the hospitals and the supplemental payments which they will receive during the 12-month period ending June 30, 2018.

Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton received a performance bonus payment from Arkansas Medicaid and Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) as part of the annual Inpatient Quality Incentive (IQI) program. The award – based on Saline Memorial’s successful performance in improving the quality of health care and patient outcomes that align with Arkansas Medicaid’s clinical priorities – was presented during the annual Arkansas Medicaid Educational Conference on Dec. 6 at Embassy Suites in Little Rock.

The CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute has been recognized as a Joint Commission Certified Center of Excellence for its Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Program. An LVAD is a surgically implanted mechanical pump that is attached to the heart and is used to treat advanced heart failure. 

Physicians with the CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute performed the institute's first LVAD surgery earlier this year.

The Office of Interprofessional Education (IPE) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received an $118,000 grant from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation to create an oral health and dental education curriculum available to all students.

The oral health component will be incorporated into the current IPE curriculum. Students in all degree programs at UAMS are required to take IPE courses.
