The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Arkansas Geriatric Education Collaborative (AGEC) is collaborating with UAMS Health ARConnectNow, the American Red Cross, Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, The Alzheimer’s Association, Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services (MEMS), and Edward Jones to present a community event on “Disaster Preparedness for Older Adults.”

The event will be held from 9:30 a.m.-12 n.n. on May 6 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall, 4823 Woodlawn Drive in Little Rock. Free parking will be available off Lee Avenue.

CHI St. Vincent, together with Hot Springs National Park, will host “Hike to Health,” a new seasonal wellness opportunity for the public. The free program will allow the public to learn more about Hot Springs and its national parks, while exercising and engaging with CHI St. Vincent health professionals. The first event held April 27 began at Whittington Park and featured CHI St. Vincent Cardiologist Jason Pelton, MD, who discussed the benefits of regular exercise on heart health.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Sixth-grade boys were lining up to be measured in the Mann Arts and Science Magnet Middle School library. As they took off their shoes and emptied their pockets, they joked about being the tallest.

"It's an advantage," said one. "You can play basketball," said another. "A taller dude can get more girls!" a third student offered.

Everyone laughed. What they didn't joke about was their weight.

NIH Awards $3.2 million to Arkansas Chil...

Investigators at Arkansas Children’s Research Institute (ACRI) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will use a $3.2 million award from the National Institutes of Health to lay the foundation for a new treatment that could transform quality of life for children with lymphatic malformations.

A type of vascular anomaly of the lymphatic system, these malformations often cause breathing and feeding difficulties for children. Patients also frequently experience pain, infections, and disfigurement.
