Science Café Little Rock, co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will hold its next public forum, "All the Buzz About Bees," on April 24. Panelists will discuss what it takes to get started and be successful in beekeeping, as well as ways to attract, feed and rescue bees and keep them healthy.

This month’s panel will include Jon Zawislak, apiculture instructor with the University of Arkansas Extension Services in Little Rock; Jeremy Bemis, owner of Bemis Honey Bee Farm in Wrightsville; and Steve Turner, a beekeeper at Honeyton Farms in Cabot.

Smokers who are ready to kick the habit are invited to participate in a free seven-week program sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

The small-group Freedom from Smoking program will meet from 5-6:30 p.m. for seven Tuesdays starting April 24 at 900 John Barrow Road. There is no cost to participate.

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) celebrated National Public Health Week (NPHW) April 2-6.

NPHW is observed during the first full week of April each year. During the week, health professionals connect with individuals and communities to show how public health helps Arkansans improve their own health, protects them from epidemics, and provides preventive health services in their communities.

Healthcare professionals are invited to the 2018 Arkansas Pain Management Symposium on April 28 at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). It is designed to provide high-quality continuing education to an interprofessional audience to improve chronic pain treatment in the state.

The symposium will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the UAMS Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute.

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) is rolling out vital records services to all local health units in all counties. By the end of this year, all health units should be able to process same-day, in-person requests for birth certificates and death certificates, in most cases.

Currently, these services are available in Pulaski-Central, Washington, Benton, Jefferson, Sebastian, Crawford, Craighead, Crittenden, Hempstead, Grant, Union, St. Francis, Boone, Drew, and Bradley county local health units.
