The public is invited to attend a new lecture series on medicine and sustainability that kicks off March 30 with a presentation by Victor J. Dzau, MD, PhD, president of the National Academy of Medicine, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

As the inaugural speaker in the Richard and Ellen Sandor Lecture Series, Dzau will discuss the importance of activating the entire biomedical community; educating the public about climate change and health; driving changes through research, innovation and policy; and taking bold actions to decarbonize the health sector.

Baptist Health has been recognized as one of 101 hospitals across the U.S. to earn the distinction of Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery by The Leapfrog Group and Money magazine.

As part of the inaugural list for bariatric surgery, Baptist Health Bariatric Center-Little Rock is one of two facilities in Arkansas to receive the honor, and the only one in the state with an A patient safety rating.

Monroe, Drew, and Phillips Counties have been added as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) for primary care by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

HPSAs are areas with a shortage of primary healthcare professionals and facilities. This designation can be based on several criteria, including geography, facilities, population, and medically underserved areas or populations.

Rangaswamy Govindarajan, M.D., hematologist and oncologist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has been appointed chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

Govindarajan, who is also a professor in the division, will lead a growing team of physicians treating patients with benign and malignant hematological disorders, multiple myeloma, and solid tumors. He will help the faculty develop investigator initiated clinical trials, including translational research.
