The public is invited to a town hall featuring clinical and community outreach and education programs on autism and a kickoff of the 2016 Autism Speaks Walk from 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is holding the event in conjunction with the Arkansas Autism Treatment Network, Autism Speaks and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. The event is for parents, clinicians and the community.

UAMS Medical Center recently won the Most Wired Award for the second year in a row from the American Hospital Association Health Forum.

The hospital, part of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), has won the distinction nine times. It is one of only two hospitals in Arkansas to earn the honor for 2016. Stone County Medical Center in Mountain View received the award for Most Wired – Small and Rural.

The survey included 680 participants representing an estimated 2,146 hospitals — more than 34 percent of all hospitals in the United States.

City of New Orleans Director of Health Charlotte Parent announced that after nine years of service to the City, she will leave her post on July 29, 2016, to become the Assistant Vice President of Community Affairs and Network Navigation for Louisiana-based, non-for-profit healthcare system LCMC Health. Parent joined the New Orleans Health Department in June 2007 and has served as the Director of Health since January 2014.

The Louisiana Department of Health announced the landmark enrollment of 250,000 new adults into Healthy Louisiana, the state’s expanded Medicaid program. Enrollment began on June 1 and coverage started July 1.

Healthy Louisiana will bring health insurance coverage to an estimated 375,000 working Louisianans. In the first month and a half of enrollment, an average of 2,500 residents per day have signed up for Medicaid coverage.
