Five regional Family Medical Centers of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and four UAMS primary care clinics in Little Rock are joining more than 2,900 primary care practices nationwide in a partnership between payers and providers.

Cutting edge imaging equipment and technologies recently introduced at CARTI are designed to significantly improve physician diagnosis and staging of cancer, according to officials with the statewide network of cancer care facilities.

The Discovery MI, a new PET/CT system developed by GE Healthcare that just received US FDA clearance in October 2016, was recently installed and unveiled at the CARTI Cancer Center in Little Rock.

Healthy Active Arkansas, an initiative launched by Gov. Asa Hutchinson in October 2015 in an effort to improve the health of Arkansans through healthy dietary choices and increased physical activity, and the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI) are co-sponsoring the Second Annual Arkansas Hospital Challenge. Last year, 20 hospitals participated in this contest, which is part of the upcoming Blue and You Fitness Challenge, and the Arkansas Hospital Association (AHA) is encouraging even more hospitals to participate this year.

Science Café Little Rock, co-sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), will hold its next public forum, The Biological Clocks Within, on Feb. 28. Panelists will discuss biological mechanisms that control growth, migration, sleep and fertility in organisms, including humans.

Science Café will be from 7-9 p.m. at Whole Hog Café, 12111 W. Markham St. Science Café is a relaxed opportunity for monthly exchanges with various experts. No reservations are needed, but seating is limited. Admission is free.
