In the first national study on the topic, a University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) researcher found evidence to suggest that fewer pregnant women with a mildly underactive thyroid should be treated than previously recommended.

Arkansas Surgeon General Greg Bledsoe will take on a new advisory role as the state seeks to grow and enhance the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) program, said officials with Arkansas Medicaid.

“This program has proven to be successful in changing patients’ outcomes while controlling costs,” said Dawn Stehle, Arkansas Department of Human Services Deputy Director for Health and Medicaid Director. “With Dr. Bledsoe’s leadership, we expect it to serve more Arkansans in a way that will lead to a healthier population overall.”

David W. Ussery, PhD, director of the Arkansas Center for Genomic and Ecological Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), was invested Feb. 21 as the inaugural recipient of the Helen Adams & Arkansas Research Alliance (ARA) Endowed Chair in Biomedical Informatics.

Ussery, who has worked with bacterial genomics since 1995, joined UAMS in May.

Baptist Health invites the community to an open house for Baptist Health Urgent Care-Jacksonville -- its latest investment in providing urgent and family care, as well as wellness services, on a walk-in basis to residents of central Arkansas. Guests are welcome to drop by between 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, to meet the staff and tour the facility.

Baptist Health Urgent Care-Jacksonville, which is located at 1813 T.P. White Drive across Highway 167 from Wal-Mart in Jacksonville, officially opened Jan. 30.
