The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) and the Arkansas Health Care Association (AHCA) recently exceeded a nursing home recruitment objective as part of an initiative to improve the quality of health care provided to nursing home residents across Arkansas. The initiative is a nationwide collaborative of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Center for Health Literacy won top honors at the ClearMark Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Center for Plain Language on May 9 in Washington, D.C.
UAMS won the Grand ClearMark Award in the Spanish language category for its plain language handbook, “Cómo Hablar con su Doctor/How to Talk to Your Doctor.” The booklet was developed by the Center for Health Literacy and the UAMS Antenatal and Neonatal Guidelines, Education and Learning System (ANGELS) interpreters at the Center for Distance Health.
Two CHI St. Vincent hospitals in central Arkansas have been recognized for excellence in stroke care by the state Department of Health.
CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock and CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs both recently received awards for providing defect-free stroke care. The recognition was based on performance measures documented in the Arkansas Stroke Registry during fiscal year 2016.
As detailed in the 3rd Annual State Tracking Report, Arkansas’s Healthcare Payment Improvement Initiative (AHCPII) has continued to demonstrate improvements in quality and reductions in costs. The Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI) has worked with participating payers including Arkansas Medicaid, Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, QualChoice, Centene / Ambetter, HealthSCOPE, Walmart, Arkansas State and Public School Employee Plans, and Arkansas Superior Select to track AHCPII progress.
Wendy Nembhard has been named chair of the Department of Epidemiology in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health.
She began on April 1 and comes to the College of Public Health from the UAMS College of Medicine, where she will continue to serve as the interim section chief for the Birth Defects Research Section in the Department of Pediatrics.
