Nidhi Kapoor, MD, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as its first neurohospitalist, combining advanced training in neurology with a specialized understanding of caring for patients while they are in the hospital.

Fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist Laura B. Huffman, MD, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She sees patients at the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and serves as an assistant professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the UAMS College of Medicine.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced $7,107,244 in funding to Arkansas through the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program. These grant funds allow the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) to continue to provide voluntary, evidence-based, and promising practice home visiting services to women during pregnancy, and to parents with young children up to kindergarten entry.

A unique, child-focused exercise lab unveiled at the Arkansas Children's Nutrition Center (ACNC) will help its world-renowned scientists learn more about preventing disease in families around the globe.

The Laboratory for Active Kids & Families is only the second of its kind in the nation, housed at ACNC on the Arkansas Children's campus. Researchers will use the facility to better understand the science of exercise, and the mechanisms by which physical activity promotes health, by observing children and pregnant mothers in fitness and physiology tests.

Twenty-seven years ago, Baptist Health was the first hospital in the state to perform a heart transplant and recently celebrated the life-giving milestone of transplanting the 250th heart since the transplant program began in 1989.

Brittany Dow, 33, of Little Rock, received the 250th heart on Sunday, Oct. 2. She was listed in serious condition, which is to be expected at this time, at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock (BHMC-LR).

Dow was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was on the transplant waiting list for 31 days.
