Registered dietitian nutritionists from around the state gathered at the Capitol recently to celebrate National Nutrition Month® and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day. They handed out mandarin oranges (also known as “Cuties”) to remind people about healthy food choices and to educate them on what exactly a registered dietitian nutritionist can do for them. Approximately 100 dietitians then met with Gov. Asa Hutchinson as he declared March 14 as Registered Dietitian Day and the month of March as National Nutrition Month®.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is attacking the nationwide opioid epidemic on multiple fronts that have produced new research and treatment options for patients and healthcare providers across Arkansas and beyond.

Students of the UAMS College of Pharmacy recently took home three American Pharmacists Association (APhA) national awards for patient care and education. Several of the college’s faculty and alumni also were elected to leadership positions in the association.
Nicki Hilliard, PharmD, a professor in the college, became the first Arkansan to serve as APhA president. She will serve for the 2018-2019 term.
The students garnered their wins during the APhA annual meeting on March 19 in Nashville, Tenn.

Three computer classes — Computer Basics, Introduction to Genealogy, and iPhone & iPad — and one computer workshop — One-on-One Computer Support — will be taught in May for adults at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.
The courses will be presented by the Little Rock Digital Learning Center, a nonprofit volunteer group. Courses begin April 30. The schedule is:
·Introduction to Genealogy, Mondays and Wednesdays, April 30 – May 23, 10 a.m. to noon.
