A free event sponsored by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will feature BJ Miller, MD, a nationally recognized expert on palliative and end-of-life care.

“Not Whether, But How: An Evening with BJ Miller” is set for 6:30 p.m. on April 17 at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave. in Little Rock. Although there is no cost to attend, seating is limited and preregistration is required at cancer.uams.edu/bjmiller.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and concessions will be available for purchase.

Many people consume and view music as simply a form of entertainment, but as renowned researchers Alex Pantelyat, MD, and Nina Kraus, PhD, explained, rhythm, song, and melody have a much deeper purpose.

“Music is so much more than just everyday background noise,” said Pantelyat. “Music can indeed be used as medicine, and I hope people young and old came away from the lecture thinking about it as something that can be used to heal, whether it’s Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, dementia, or non-neurological disorders. Music is a healthy prescription for the brain.”

Hamilton House Child and Family Safety Center recently partnered with Mercy to place pinwheels at Mercy on the corner of Rogers Avenue and 74th Street. The effort draws attention to Child Abuse Awareness Month in April.

CHI St. Vincent has appointed Cara Petrus as director for the Arkansas Neuroscience Institute (ANI). Petrus, who most recently served as the operational project manager for ANI’s transition to the CHI St. Vincent North campus, will now take a leadership role as the institute prepares to open the new, world-class Arkansas Neuroscience Institute Research and Education Center this summer.
