The 23rd annual Family Medicine Update at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will offer up to 23.75 hours of continuing education Oct. 23-25 for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and certified health educators.

Arkansas Children’s and Jefferson Regional will establish a new pediatric clinic on the campus of Jefferson Regional in Pine Bluff. The pediatric clinic will provide care close to home for families in Southeast Arkansas, including preventative care, developmental screenings, community resources, and health education.

Danielle Lombard-Sims, PhD, has been named vice chancellor for Human Resources at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Lombard-Sims replaces Jeff Risinger, who left UAMS in April for another position.

Mercy co-workers and community members gathered to celebrate and bless the next-to-last piece in Mercy’s multiyear expansion, a 63,000-square-foot clinic featuring primary and specialty care and a 24-hour ER just off Interstate 49. The clinic is called Mercy Springdale.

Mercy has invested $47 million in the clinic, its largest in Northwest Arkansas, as part of a $277 million expansion announced in April of 2016. The last piece of the expansion is a seven-story tower at Mercy Hospital that will open in phases in October and November.

A free dementia care workshop will be offered Oct. 4 in Jacksonville for those who would like to learn about caring for an adult with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
