The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received a $1.5 million pledge from the SHARE Foundation as a commitment to establish a UAMS family medicine residency program in El Dorado. 

“This generous gift represents a significant investment in the future of health care for El Dorado and the surrounding area,” said Cam Patterson, MD, MBA, UAMS chancellor and CEO of UAMS Health. “We are extremely grateful to the SHARE Foundation for this gift, which will benefit countless patients of our future family medicine resident physicians.”

Arkansas Children’s Hospital has promoted Amy Fallon, PhD, to the position of senior vice president of operations. Fallon, who was recruited from Texas Children’s four years ago to lead facilities and support services at the 336-bed Little Rock campus, brings to the position experience in operations, logistics, engineering, and healthcare.

A University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) research team has found that while the coronavirus can create dangerous variants like delta and omicron, its ability to mutate has limits that should help drug and vaccine makers trying to thwart it.

Drawing from global databases with millions of sequenced SARS-CoV-2 genomes, the multinational team, led by David Ussery, PhD, has shown that the virus has a limited genetic range for new mutations. The team’s observations are published in FEMS Microbiology Reviews.
