Laura Hays, PhD, APRN, associate professor in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing, has received a four-year, $1.4 million federal grant to expand and enhance the Arkansas Department of Health’s Newborn Screening Program.
Arkansas Children’s Foundation has announced four new members to its board of directors: Trav Baxter, Fadil Bayyari, Angie Staley Johnson, and Katie Stephens. They join the 36-member board that represents statewide communities served by Arkansas Children's. Baxter, Bayyari, and Johnson were elected to three-year terms that began on January 1, 2024. Stephens, also elected to a three-year term, began her service on July 1, 2024.
The Strategic Committee for Maternal Health has delivered a report to Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders outlining recommended new policies, programs, and approaches aimed at improving health outcomes for pregnant women, new moms, and babies, the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) and the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) announced.
CHI St. Vincent announced that the CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Cancer Center has been awarded accreditation by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC).
Accreditation by the CoC is given only to facilities that are committed to providing high-quality cancer care and successfully undergo a rigorous evaluation process in compliance with CoC standards. ACS CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer by setting and raising standards.
On Sept. 4, officials held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of Baptist Health Family Clinic-Rose City, which serves residents of North Little Rock and surrounding communities.
A partnership between the City of North Little Rock and Baptist Health, Baptist Health Family Clinic-Rose City is the first full-service medical clinic in the east part of North Little Rock since a medical office burned in 2013.
