The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will host its 2023 Geriatrics Updates from Sept. 28-30 at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging.

This year’s conference combines two of the institute’s annual events: the Geriatrics Medicine Highlights and the Cognitive Impairment and Memory Disorders Update. The goal is to provide health professionals, patients, caregivers, and members of the community with information on the latest evidence-based standards and research in geriatric care.

Five-time Olympic medalist Nastia Liukin will headline the 33rd annual Bolo Bash reception and luncheon in October. 

This year’s luncheon, presented by Dillard’s, will be held Oct. 19 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at City Center, 315 N. Shackleford Road in Little Rock. 

Co-chairs for the event are Danielle Collie and Elizabeth Machen.

CHI St. Vincent announced William G. Jones, MD, as the new president of CHI St. Vincent Infirmary. Jones has served CHI St. Vincent Infirmary as chief medical officer and as vice president of medical affairs for the past five years. In addition to president of the Infirmary, he will continue to serve as its chief medical officer.

The National Football League (NFL) and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) recently awarded more than half a million dollars to medical researchers, including two pain specialists at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), to study non-opioid alternatives for treating post-traumatic headache, a common after-effect of concussion and other forms of traumatic brain injury.

The 2023 National Dialogues on Behavioral Health’s annual conference, entitled “Dialogues to Action: Responses to Address Trauma and Violence,” aims to dispel myths to identify appropriate and meaningful preventive, treatment, and recovery responses to the causes and needs of the people who perpetrate interpersonal violence and violence to self, or who are victimized by violence. The conference is slated for Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the Renaissance Arts Hotel in New Orleans.
