Mabee Foundation to support its historic expan- sion project. This funding marks the continuation of a 37-year partnership between Arkansas Children's and the Mabee Foundation, with total grants exceeding $8 million over the decades. John and Lottie Mabee established the Mabee Foundation in 1948. Their core values of generos- ity, gratitude, stewardship and long-term impact continue to drive the foundation today. Mike Goeke, executive director of the Mabee Foun- dation, says their legacy fosters a spirit of giving from everyone. "This grant is very exciting for Arkansas Chil- dren's, because it means we have met the chal- lenge and have had great momentum from the incredible generosity of our community," said Fred Scarborough, executive vice president and chief development officer at Arkansas Children's. "We are so grateful for Mabee Foundation’s vision as we advance pediatric health care in the region.” In the 75 years since it began, the Mabee Foundation has awarded more than $1.6 billion in grants to non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Okla- homa, and Texas. CHI St. Vincent Names Garrett Lewis, MD, Market Chief Medical Officer CHI St. Vincent announced that Garrett Lewis, MD, has been named market chief medical officer. He previously served as vice president of medical affairs for the Central Arkansas market. In his new role, Lewis will lead the team of medical experts and manage daily hospital operations. “Dr. Lewis is a great addition to the market lead- ership team with a proven commitment to com- passionate care, and I know he will play an integral part in the growth and sustainability of our min- istry for many years to come,” said Market Presi- dent Chad Aduddell. Lewis is a board-certified emergency physician with more than a decade of experience practic- ing emergency medicine. He graduated from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine and completed a residency at the University of Arkan- sas for Medical Sciences. Two Transplant Surgeons Join UAMS John R. Montgomery, MD, and Tsukasa Naka- mura, MD, PhD, have joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant surgeons. Both will also serve as assistant professors in the College of Medicine Department of Surgery. Montgomery comes to UAMS from New York City, where he completed a two-year fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at New York Univer- sity’s Langone Medical Center. Previously, he com- pleted a residency in general surgery at the Uni- versity of Michigan Medicine, which is a research university in Ann Arbor, and a research fellowship at the University of Michigan’s Center for Health- care Outcomes & Policy (CHOP). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 2010; a medical degree from the Medical Univer- sity of South Carolina in Charleston in 2015; and a Master of Science degree in health and health- care research at Rackham Graduate School at the University of Michigan in 2020. Nakamura joins UAMS fromMassachusetts Gen- eral Hospital in Boston, where he completed fel- lowships in transplant surgery and transplant sur- gery research, and performed numerous liver and kidney transplant surgeries, including robotic- assisted surgeries. He received a medical degree from Kyoto Pre- fectural University of Medicine in Kyoto, Japan, in 2008, followed by a doctoral degree, also from the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, in 2016. He completed a general surgical residency at the same university, followed by a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at Massachusetts General. Both Montgomery and Nakamura see patients at the main UAMS campus and at the nearby Freeway Medical Clinic. Montgomery also sees patients at the UAMS transplant satellite office in Texarkana on the fourth Friday of every month. Saline Health System Names NewCEO Saline Memorial Hospital announced the appointment of Char Boulch as the new CEO for Saline Health System, effective Feb. 17. Boulch has served as Saline Memorial Hospital’s chief nursing officer (CNO) since 2023. Since joining Saline Memorial Hospital, Boulch has led efforts to enhance patient safety, improve hospital efficiency, and strengthen staff engagement. Garrett Lewis, MD John R.
