CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Awarded Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement by The Joint Commission CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Certification. The two-year recertification demon- strates the healing ministry’s continuous compli- ance with performance standards. “This gold seal is a symbol of our hospital’s com- mitment to providing safe, quality care for our patients with consistently excellent outcomes,” said CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs President Doug- las Ross, MD. “Year after year, our patients know they can expect that level of care when they come through our doors and we’ve built an expert team of surgeons, nurses, and other medical staff to ensure that expectation of quality is fulfilled.” The certification by The Joint Commission is offered in collaboration with the American Acad- emy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and focuses on everything from pre-surgical orthopedic consul- tations to rehabilitation activities and follow-up visits with an orthopedic surgeon. CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review during which a Joint Commission representative evaluated compliance with related certification standards. “Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Deb- orah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice pres- ident for accreditation and certification opera- tions at The Joint Commission. “We commend CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and manage- ment framework for orthopedic patients.” CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs has also been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Primary Heart Attack Center Certi- fication as well as Advanced Primary Stroke Cen- ter Certification. CHI St. Vincent Morrilton Recognized as Pathway to Excellence Hospital CHI St. Vincent Morrilton was designated for the third time as a “Pathway to Excellence” hospi- tal, maintaining its distinction as the first and only hospital in Arkansas to receive the “Pathway to Excellence” recognition for its exceptional nurs- ing care. The designation is awarded by the Amer- ican Nurses Credentialing Center. “This re-designation as a Pathway to Excellence hospital affirms CHI St. Vincent Morrilton’s ded- ication to its nurses and to quality care for the community we serve,” said CHI St. Vincent Chief Nurse Executive Angie Longing. “It is an honor to work alongside nursing professionals who excel in their profession and love the work they do. We are grateful to again be recognized as one of the best places in the state for nurses to work.” The designation must be renewed every four years. CHI St. Vincent Morrilton first received the designation in 2014. The hospital retained the sta- tus after an evaluation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The ANCC also utilizes a confidential nurses survey to determine whether the hospital maintains the designation. The survey demonstrates the professional satisfac- tion of nurses at CHI St. Vincent Morrilton. Worldwide, only a small number of hospitals have attained the “Pathway to Excellence” des- ignation. Healthcare organizations are measured on 12 practice standards, and organizations that seek “Pathway to Excellence” recognition must demonstrate how the standards are embodied in their operating policies, procedures, and organi- zational culture. Some of those standards include systems that address patient care and practice concerns; safe and healthy work environments; nurses controlling the practice of nursing; pro- fessional development opportunities for nurses; encouragement of a balanced lifestyle; equitable compensation; and a quality program using evi- dence-based practices. n April Kranz Joel C.
