60 JUL / AUG 2019  I  Healthcare Journal of ARKANSAS Hospital Rounds 2019 Great 100 Nurses List Includes 29 fromUAMS Twenty-nine nurses from the University of Arkan- sas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) were named to the Great 100 Nurses Foundation’s annual list of the state’s outstanding nurses.  The list honors nurses from numerous back- grounds and specialties for their concern for humanity, their contributions to the profession and their mentorship of others. UAMS nurses on the list come from research, administration, and clinical practice. The Great 100 Nurses Foundation was founded by P.K. Scheerle more than 30 years ago in Loui- siana. It advocates for nursing through scholar- ships and research. The foundation has honored nurses in Louisiana, North Carolina, Texas, and Oklahoma. This is the third year it has honored Arkansas nurses. “We certainly know that our nurses are great, so it is rewarding to see such a prestigious orga- nization agree,” said Trenda Ray, PhD, APRN, UAMS Medical Center interim chief nursing offi- cer. “Our patients and their families expect and deserve personal, compassionate care, and our nurses make that possible.” Among the UAMS nurses named to the list are 13 from the UAMS College of Nursing. “The faculty and staff in the College of Nursing work very hard every day preparing the next gen- eration of nurses to provide exceptional care,” said Patricia A. Ward CHI St. Vincent Opens New Arkansas Neuroscience Institute CHI St. Vincent opened the new Arkansas Neu- roscience Institute, a destination neurosciences center that provides advanced neurosurgery care to patients locally, across the country, and around the world. Patients from 38 states and from all 75 counties in Arkansas have been treated in this comprehensive program that incorporates all aspects of neurosurgery and a full spectrum of neurological disorders.  The relocation of surgical and clinical operations to the newly expanded center on the CHI St. Vin- cent North campus is now complete; the Arkan- sas Neuroscience Institute Research and Educa- tion Center hosted its grand opening in June. The research and education center’s amenities include an expanded laboratory and classrooms, an audi- torium, the Arkansas Neuroscience Institute Clinic, and office space for the institute and other phy- sicians. The lab will be the only one of its kind in the world, featuring Dr. Emad Aboud’s patented teaching model, The Live Cadaver, to teach proce- dures and surgical approaches to cavernous sinus lesions, complex cerebral aneurysms, and other neurological pathologies. “The Arkansas Neuroscience Institute is known for its internationally-recognized neurosurgeons who perform more than 1,000 complex surgeries a year and serve as mentors to clinicians seeking to learn the most advanced, sophisticated tech- niques for treating neurological disorders,” said CHI St. Vincent CEO Chad Aduddell. “This world- class institute will give CHI St. Vincent additional capacity to treat patients and improve upon the excellent and compassionate care we strive to offer in the community and beyond.” Arkansas Heart Hospital Announces NewCardiologist for El Dorado Arkansas Heart Hospital announced the addition of Dr. Anthanasios Stoyioglou to their El Dorado Clinic.
