Pu will meet with potential adjunct fac- ulty and build relationships with physicians to sup- port the training of NYITCOM student doctors. Pu has been involved in medical education since 1984 and has been committed to educat- ing students throughout his career. Pu served as medical director for the Southeast Missouri Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in Kennett for many years and served on the board of the Mis- souri AHEC system. “We are very fortunate to add such a talented and experienced physician to our faculty,” said Dr. Amanda Deel, NYITCOM at A-State assistant dean for clinical education. “Dr. Pu has always been committed to having students not only to pay it forward, but to also encourage students to return to rural areas to practice upon completion of their medical education. His passion aligns per- fectly with NYITCOM’s mission and we are thrilled to welcome him to our team.”  In addition to his role with NYITCOM, Pu will continue to see patients in Kennett and work to improve access to healthcare in Southeast Missouri. Pu earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Kansas City University Medicine and Bio- sciences in 1979. After completing a rotat- ing internship at Jacksonville General Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. and a general surgery resi- dency at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, Pu began his practice in Kennett in 1984 in gen- eral surgery. In 2009, he transitioned out of gen- eral surgery to full-time wound care in Kennett. He served as chief medical officer of Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center from 1997-2018. Pu is board-certified in general surgery in 1988 and was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons in 1996. Event to Help Raise Funds for Multi-Purpose Health Center in Little Rock In promoting the planned Franklin Community Health Complex, the Community Health Centers of Arkansas welcomed a fundraiser where celeb- rity chefChef Jeff Henderson, a former Food Net- work chef, and prominent local chef Donnie Fer- neau were featured. LaShannon Spencer, chief executive officer at Community Health Centers of Arkansas (CHCA), said Henderson, a former drug dealer who transformed his life and became a nationally renowned chef, served as master of cer- emonies for the CHCA’s Hunger Banquet, which raised money and awareness for Franklin. Ferneau crafted the menu. “Henderson has an incredible personal story to tell of overcoming adversity to achieve a better life outcome,” Spen- cer said. “This is exactly what we hope to do with Franklin by providing quality healthcare and edu- cational programs for at-risk neighborhoods in central Little Rock.” Plans for the Franklin complex – located in the former Franklin Elementary School at 1701 S. Harrison St. in the Oak Forest neighborhood – include a community health center, a commu- nity cafeteria, meeting spaces, and recreational options. “Poor diet and food intake can be detrimental to a lot of minority communities and poor white communities and can cause high blood pressure and obesity,” Henderson said. “It’s really all about educating people. I’m really talking a lot about eating farm-to-table produce and knowing where your food comes from.” Other Little Rock appearances by Henderson included meeting with students at Henderson Middle School and for a soup lunch with middle school children at Hillary Rodham Clinton Chil- dren’s Library & Learning Center.
