A University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) professor has secured $710,000 in grant funding for the continuation of an interdisciplinary training program for health professionals, with the aim of improving services for children with developmental disabilities.
UAMS has directed the Arkansas Regional Leadership Education in Neuro-Developmental Disabilities (LEND) Project since 1994. The project has been funded by grants from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.
Kasey Nix, MD, has joined Conway Regional Health System as a hospitalist. A Family Medicine specialist, Dr. Nix began practice on July 17.
Dr. Nix completed a residency and medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from UCA, which is part of what led him back to Conway.
Nationally renowned pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon Brian Reemtsen, MD, of Mattel Children’s Hospital and the David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, has been named director of the Heart Institute at Arkansas Children’s Hospital. He will also serve as professor of surgery in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) College of Medicine’s Department of Surgery.
Arthritis Foundation camps provide a safe and secure camp experience for children and teens with juvenile arthritis and childhood rheumatic diseases. Camp AcheAway is a five-night, residential camp hosted in partnership with Camp Aldersgate and Med Camps of Arkansas. Campers gain a greater understanding of their own juvenile arthritis, develop peer-to-peer support, increase independence and self-confidence, and discover new skills and interests.
