The single biggest factor determining whether a patient is likely to use opioids long-term may be the number of days’ supply initially prescribed, according to a study by UAMS researchers.

“Compared to someone prescribed two days versus seven days, that person with a seven-day supply is twice as likely to be using opioids in the long term,” said Bradley Martin, PharmD, PhD. “The days supplied is far more important than the dosage level, or even the type of pain being treated.”

CARTI has been awarded a $45,000 grant from the Arkansas Cancer Coalition to help implement cancer control efforts in support of the Arkansas Cancer Plan.

“We are incredibly thankful for this generous gift from our friends at the Arkansas Cancer Coalition,” says Kathi Jones, CARTI Foundation president. “This grant will directly benefit the CARTI Transportation Assistance program, which is designed to help reduce some of the treatment barriers often faced by some of our most vulnerable patients.”

Love the Skin You're In: An All-Natural Approach to Skincare Workshop, slated Aug 25, will focus on ways to care for skin health through natural ingredients, face yoga (toning exercises for the face), face mapping (how to pinpoint the cause of troubled areas), and face massage (techniques to increase circulation). There will also be a guided meditation and acupuncture (or pressure for those who are uncomfortable with acupuncture needles) to guide participants in integrating relaxation into their daily routines.
